AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification: My experience
Hugo Viana
Our software developer, Hugo Viana, shared valuable insights in his talk “My Experience and Tips with AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Certification.”
Hugo shared his experience and tips with a clear goal: to inspire and encourage others on their learning journey. Explore essential insights and practical tips for navigating the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Certification.
AWS Certification: Diverse exams tailored to various expertise levels
Firstly, Hugo explained that he decided to take the AWS exam to get a clear overview of AWS services. He showed us that AWS certification is divided into four pillars, and you can start wherever you want.
AWS Foundational
A knowledge-based certification for a foundational understanding of AWS Cloud. Prior experience is optional to pass this exam.
AWS Associate
A role-based certification that showcases your knowledge and skills on AWS and builds your credibility as an AWS Cloud professional. Recommended experience includes prior cloud and/or strong on-premises IT experience..
AWS Professional
A role-based certification that validates the advanced skills and knowledge required to design secure, optimized, and modernized applications and automate processes on AWS. At least two years of experience provides a solid foundation in AWS cloud computing. It demonstrates that the holder possesses the skills to design, deploy, and manage applications on AWS.
AWS Speciality
This certification enables you to dive deeper and position yourself as a trusted advisor to your stakeholders and customers in these strategic areas. You can become an AWS Trusted Advisor, a service Amazon provides to customers to help you optimize costs, increase performance, improve security and resilience, and operate at scale in the cloud.
He concluded that all different types of AWS exams (Foundational, Associate, Professional, and Speciality) have eligibility and:
You can earn all of them without completing specific prerequisites:
AWS offers recommendations for knowledge and experience that align with each certification’s content and proficiency level.
AWS maintains impartiality in all certification activities, neither requiring nor endorsing specific courses. There are multiple methods to prepare for each certification.
The exam targets absolute beginners on the technical side and business professionals, such as product managers, finance resources, and executives. The goal is to build familiarity with AWS without the necessity of earning an associate-level AWS certification.
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam
Hugo shared with us some information about the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam. This entry-level certification is designed for individuals with a basic understanding of the AWS Cloud, covering general cloud computing concepts, AWS services, security, architecture, pricing, and support. He passed it successfully and mentioned facts that everybody should consider.
The AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam consists of 65 multiple-choice, multiple-answer questions.
You have 90 minutes.
Available in English, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese.
It costs around USD 100.
Scaled score of 100–1,000. The minimum passing score is 700.
AWS: Exploring four pillars – Cloud concepts, security, technology, and billing & pricing
The four pillars of AWS are cloud concepts, security, technology, and billing and pricing. Cloud concepts define the AWS Cloud and its value proposition, identify aspects of AWS Cloud economics, and list different cloud architecture design principles. Security explains the AWS Shared Responsibility model, AWS Cloud security, and compliance concepts. Additionally, identify AWS access management capabilities and resources for security support. Technology defines methods of deploying and operating in AWS Cloud, then explains the AWS Global Infrastructure and identifies core AWS services and resources for technology support. Billing and pricing are related to comparing and contrasting various pricing models for AWS and recognizing different account structures about AWS billing and pricing. In the end, Hugo showed us how he did it and explained the next steps after passing AWS CCP.
Conclusion
He concluded that from AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, most students proceed into the AWS Associate-level certifications — Solutions Architect, Developer, and SysOps Administrator. Also, you can embark on one of their Learning Paths, designed to take you step-by-step from novice to expert in your chosen career track. Hugo’s goal for this session was to pass on his AWS certification experience and encourage others to continue learning and developing their skills. He fulfilled his objective during this session by sharing his AWS certification journey and inspiring others to persevere in their learning and development.
