Git workshop for students at the grammar school in Doboj

by ProductDock

As part of our ongoing collaboration with the Grammar School Jovan Dučić in Doboj, we organized a hands-on Git workshop for its students.

Led by our software engineers, Magdalena Šljivić and Ladislav Milunović, the workshop sparked intense interest among the participants. Students had the opportunity to explore the fundamentals of code versioning and learn about modern best practices in software development.

Insights from our team

After the workshop, our engineers shared their impressions of the event, reflecting on the students’ enthusiasm, the value of early exposure to version control, and the importance of fostering interest in software engineering among younger generations.

Why did you choose Git for the workshop, and why is it important for the students of this high school?

Ladislav: Git was chosen because it represents a fundamental skill in the modern software industry. Beyond the technical knowledge of the tool itself, Git teaches students about ways of collaborating and managing projects, preparing them for real-world work, considering that Git is today the de facto industry standard.

Magdalena: Since Git is one of the most important tools in the world of programming and software engineering, we decided to organize Git workshops in order to provide students with insight into the basic principles of teamwork, as well as tracking changes and safely experimenting on projects. For high school students, this is an excellent opportunity to become familiar with the tool they will undoubtedly need in the future—whether at school, at university, or on their first projects.

Tell us about the workshop.

Ladislav: Returning to school is always interesting in its own way. I was glad to see that the students showed interest and willingness to ask questions and talk about our field. I believe that young people who show curiosity for a certain field at that age should be given maximum support to strengthen their desire for knowledge and learning.

Magdalena: The workshop went very well. The students were curious and active, and I am happy that the IT track at Jovan Dučić Grammar School strives to motivate students during their high school years to develop practical skills that will undoubtedly benefit them in the future.

Are there any other workshops or lectures planned for students at Jovan Dučić Grammar School?

Ladislav: Yes, one of my colleagues is also planning on holding a workshop on developing web applications using Spring.

Magdalena: While I don’t have any plans so far for another workshop on Git or any other topic, it’s worth noting that there is clear interest from both Jovan Dučić Grammar School and ProductDock in continuing collaboration. Therefore, I have no doubt that we will hold similar workshops in the future.

Do you have any advice for young professionals starting their careers and looking to join the IT community?

Ladislav: Nurture your curiosity as a professional driving force. Learn the basics well. A tool is only a means, one should focus on the essential mechanisms and the problem the tool solves, not only on mastering the syntax.

Magdalena: Experiment, learn, stay curious, and do not be afraid of making mistakes. Ask questions and surround yourself with people who share similar ambitions.

We continue to invest in the future IT talents.

Through this collaboration with Grammar School Jovan Dučić in Doboj, we continue to support and empower young people who are taking their first steps into the IT world.

By sharing our knowledge and expertise, we aim to inspire curiosity, foster practical learning, and promote long-term growth within the local tech community.

Stay tuned for more news and future collaborations.
